Nicki Minaj

Now we talking about our quirky sweet rapper , Nicki Minaj. Born in 1982, Nicki Minaj grew up with an abusive, drug-addicted father. After attending La Guardia High School for the Arts, she was introduced to rapper Lil Wayne, who launched her career. Her 2010 debut album, Pink Friday, and her single, "Your Love," topped the Billboard charts. A frequent "cameo" singer, Minaj's voice was featured in seven songs on Billboard's Hot 100 in 2010. In 2012, Minaj was announced as one of the new judges of the popular singing show American Idol(season 12).

Early Life

Hip-hop artist and singer Nicki Minaj was born Onika Tanya Maraj on December 8, 1982, in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, and moved with her family to Queens, New York, when she was 5 years old. Minaj's father was a severe drug addict with a long history of violence. At one point, he set fire to the family's home in a failed attempt to kill Minaj's mother. Those early struggles, Minaj has said, helped fuel her drive to rise above the life her parents knew. "I've always had this female-empowerment thing in the back of my mind," she told Details magazine, "because I wanted my mother to be stronger, and she couldn't be. I thought, 'If I'm successful, I can change her life.'"

To reach that point, however, the young Minaj developed personas for herself that would allow her to be a "new person." An early incarnation was someone she called "Cookie," then came "Harajuku Barbie," before finally settling on Nicki Minaj. "Fantasy was my reality," she has said. Minaj clearly had a knack for performance. At the age of 12, she authored her first rap, then went on to delve into acting at La Guardia High School of Music and Art, the school that inspired the movie Fame.

Rapper and Singer

Determined to make it in the music business, Minaj took on backup singing roles for local New York City rappers. Soon, she began writing her own material. She was eventually discovered by Dirty Money CEO Fendi, who came across Minaj's MySpace page, loved what he heard, and immediately signed her to his label.

That connection led Minaj to Lil Wayne, who collaborated with her on a series of mix tapes, the first of which, Playtime is Over, was released in April 2007. The recording, and subsequent mixed tapes, showcased Minaj's female swagger and out-front style.

By early 2010, considerable anticipation had built up around Minaj's much discussed, much covered debut album, which was scheduled for release that fall. In April of that year, she released her first single, "Massive Attack." Two months later she won Best Hip-Hop Female at the annual BET Awards. She dedicated the award to Lil Wayne.

In 2012, Minaj was announced as one of the newest cast members of American Idol; the singer will begin appearing on the popular television show in 2013 (season 12), as part of the show's judging panel.

Over the last few years, the music industry has evolved in a way which allows the common man with extraordinary talents, to rise above the sea of similarity, and stand on his own as the voice of a generation. A generation that is fueled by heart, emotion, passion and determination.

And that man has come to surface as Secondhand Serenade...

Born into a family of musicians, John Vesely has taken the gift he was instilled with, and shaped it into his own. With the help of his father, a professional jazz musician for over 20 years in the Czech Republic, he started getting into music around the age of 12. Playing bass for 8 years, he was a member of numerous Bay area bands ranging in style from ska and hardcore to rock and pop. But it wasn't until he picked up the acoustic guitar that he finally found his true calling. "I switched to guitar when I met my wife. She wanted me to play her a song, but I didn't have a band at the time and serenading her with a bass guitar was out of the question" Vesely said.

Once he began writing his own material, John scraped up the money for 8 days of studio time and went in to record the 10-track album, known as Awake in the summer of 2005. Armed with a superior vocal range, a mind blowing sense of harmony and heart wrenching lyrics, he was able to walk away with an acoustic album that would prove to be the groundwork for the start of his career. When it came time to chose a name, he decided to go with Secondhand Serenade in an attempt to stay away from the typical singer/songwriter image. "It's everything I would want in a band name and more. It basically sums up what I do. I write my songs about events and feelings that occur in my life, and I sing the songs to my wife. Everyone else gets the Secondhand Serenade."

While some artists may fear the rawness of playing with just an acoustic guitar, John welcomes the honesty it comes along with. He claims "In some ways a band is more powerful, but in other ways there are things you can do with one voice and one acoustic guitar that you couldn't do with an army of musicians behind you." It only seems right that an artist with this mentality begins to spread his wings.

With his eyes set on conquering a fan base, John put together a MySpace page and started playing out in his area. As the number of listeners at his shows began to grow, so did his on-line fan base... in a BIG way. In just a few months time, Secondhand Serenade would shoot to the #1 position of all unsigned bands on the widely popular site. Simultaneously, he would become the only unsigned act to have a CD in the top 100 alternative albums on itunes. While that seemed exciting enough, he also released a few demos on Yahoo! Launch, which would soon claim the #1 position as well, on the Adult Alternative station. This time, he was not beating out other unsigned acts, he was competing with the cream of the crop, and winning. Months would go by as Secondhand Serenade claimed the top of the chart over such names as John Mayer, Nickelback and Evanescence. Not used to seeing this kind of reaction, industry insiders began to wonder... was it actually possible for an unsigned, one man act, with nothing more than a self-produced acoustic album, and the help of no one but fans, to post numbers that were superior to artists on major labels? Artists with millions of dollars spent on promotions? For Secondhand Serenade, it was not only possible... it was reality.

As 2006 began to wind down, John's career was in full swing as he stepped to the next level. Having made the rounds to major labels in New York and Los Angeles, a deal was eventually signed with Glassnote Records, a brand new label started by respected industry veteran, Daniel Glass. As Glassnote's first official artist, the team immediately went to work mapping out the next year for Secondhand Serenade, along with the help of Warner/Independent Label Group.

2007 now looks to be an eventful year as well. With 2 new songs added to Awake, Glassnote/ILG released the album to retail on February 6th. In addition, a video was shot with Frank Borin (director for Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Eminem) for the song "Vulnerable," a fan favorite. This year will also provide Secondhand Serenade an opportunity to see his fans from all over the country. With shows already scheduled for SXSW and numerous other tours taking shape, John anticipates giving his audience from coast to coast, a firsthand experience. He will also see the studio again soon as another release is being planned for later in the year. Stay tuned... Secondhand Serenade is invading the hearts, minds and airwaves of the world.

Dengan wajah yang ganteng dan gaya yang keci abis, band ini semakin dikenal oleh para penikmat musik di dunia, khususnya para cewek-cewek.

Namun nggak semudah itu lho mereka bisa terkenal dan punya banyak groupies seperti sekarang ini. Mereka juga butuh perjuangan untuk bisa sampai seperti sekarang ini. Kabarnya dulu mereka juga pernah manggung tanpa satu orang penonton pun di Oregon. Bahkan, pelayan di bar pun sampai pulang dan membuat Maroon 5 gigit jari. Arrgghhhh!

Sejak pertama kali dibentuk Adam Levine cs pernah menggunakan nama lain sebelum namanya berubah menjadi Maroon 5. Yap, sekitar tahun 1995 an band yang kini populer dengan line up Adam Levine (vocals, guitar), James Valentine (guitar, backing vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, backing vocals), Mickey Madden (bass guitar, backing vocals) dan Matt Flynn (drums) menggunakan nama Kara’s Flowers untuk band ini.

Yang unik dari Kara’s Flower yaitu, walau sempat mempunyai satu album, tapi band ini nggak pernah terkenal lho. Waduuhh! Wah apa gara-gara nama Kara’s Flowers itu kurang hoki kali ya. Hehe! Namun setelah mereka bubar dan berganti nama di tahun 1999, kini Maroon 5 sering sekali mendapat penghargaan. Hal tersebut bisa dilihat dari album pertamanya “Songs About Jane” yang dirilis pada bulan Juni 2002 dan singlenya yang mendapat penghargaan Grammy Award untuk Best New Artist, Grammy Award untuk Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal dengan lagu “This Love” dan sejumlah penghargaan lain. Wow!

Kabarnya album yang diberi nama oleh Adam Levine itu di ambil dari nama mantan pacarnya yang bernama Jane lho. Ciiee! Wah kalau tahu namanya kini terkenal gitu mungkin si Jane nyesel seumur hidup kali ya mutusin si Adam.

Nggak hanya berhenti di situ saja, tapi band ini semakin serius melebarkan sayapnya di dunia hiburan. Keseriusan tersebut terbukti dengan keluarnya album mereka yang lain seperti “it wont  be soon before long”, “hands all over” dan album terbaru mereka yang akan dirilis pada 26 Juni 2012 nanti “Overexpose”.

Seperti artikel yang Ekspresi Suara Remaja buat sebelumnya, Maroon 5 akan merilis album nya di Indonesia pada 5 Oktober mendatang. Di album terbarunya ini band yang terkenal dengan hits singlenya yang berjudul “Moves Like Jagger” ini juga akan menggandeng beberapa penyanyi lain untuk berkolaborasi. Salah satunya di single terbarunya yang berjudul “Payphone” Adam Levine cs akan berkolaborasi dengan penyanyi rep Wiz Khalifa.

Saat membawakan single yang dianggap terlalu vulgar, Madonna tampak memukau para penonton ketika dia muncul di atas sebuah kue pernikahan raksasa, mengenakan kerudung dan gaun pengantin serta mengenakan sabuk bergesper dengan tulisan Boy Toy yang selalu dikenakannya. Aksi Madonna tersebut disambut meriah oleh para penggemarnya dan dianggap sebagai pertunjukan paling bersejarah yang pernah digelar MTV. Penampilannya yang paling kontroversial adalah ketika Madonna muncul di iklan Pepsi membawakan single "Like a Prayer". Saat itu, video iklan tersebut menampilkan sosok Madonna dan memperlihatkan beberapa simbol Katolik dan adegan membakar salib. Akibatnya, Vatikan dan beberapa kelompok religius memboikot produk Pepsi dan melarang iklan tersebut beredar. Adapun Pepsi segera menarik iklan tersebut dan membatalkan kontrak sebagai sponsor Madonna. Meski menuai kontroversi, single yang termasuk dalam track dari album berjudul sama itu berhasil menarik perhatian dan membuat album Madonna terjual laris hingga 13 juta copy di seluruh dunia.

Seiring dengan kesuksesannya sebagai penyanyi, Madonna juga mulai merambah dunia film. Beberapa film yang dibintanginya juga cukup terkenal dan membuatnya meraih penghargaan yakni kategori Best Actress in Motion Picture Musical or Comedy di ajang Golden Globe Award atas keberhasilannya menghidupkan karakter istri Presiden Argentinta, Eva Peron, di film "Evita" (1996). Tak hanya jajal kemampuan akting, Madonna juga membuktikan kalau dirinya juga piawai menyutradarai seperti film "Filth and Wisdom" dan film biopic tentang skandal hubungan Raja Edward VIII dan Wallis Simpson yang tengah digarapnya, "W.E.".

Selain terkenal sebagai penyanyi, Madonna juga rupanya menjadi idola para pria. Dia terkenal memiliki banyak pacar dan suami. Adapun sederet selebriti terkenal yang pernah menjadi kekasihnya antara lain, pemain basket NBA Dennis Rodman, rapper Vanilla Ice, Warren Beatty dan model cJesus Madonna juga merupakan mantan istri aktor film "Milk", Sean Penn (16 Agustus 1985 s.d 1989) dan sutradara film "Sherlock Holmes", Guy Ritchie (22 Desember 2000 s.d Januari 2009). Dari hubungan asmaranya dengan pelatih fitnes Carlos Leon (1994 - 1997), Madonna memiliki putri bernama Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon yang lahir 14 Oktober 1996. Sementara saat menikah dengan Guy, Madonna melahirkan seorang putra yang diberi nama Rocco John Richie (11 Agustus 2000) dan bersama Guy mengadopsi anak dari Malawi pada Oktober 2006 yang diberi nama David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie.
